Sacred Heart University’s rowing team rolled out the spring portion of its schedule recently with two wins, as it hosted Robert Morris University, Iona College and Manhattan College as part of its annual Spring Fling.
The day began with the varsity eight competition. The Pioneers took the lead following the initial 300 meters and finished first ahead of Robert Morris by 12 seconds, with a time of 8:26. Manhattan’s Jaspers claimed third place, and Iona finished fourth to round out scoring.
The junior varsity eight race was the second event of the day. After a rough start, the Pioneers were able to rally and came in second to the Robert Morris Colonials with a time of 9:26, ahead of Manhattan College.
Next, the varsity four race saw the Pioneers cross the line third behind Robert Morris and Manhattan. Sacred Heart ended with the time of 11:52.
To wrap up play, SHU’s novice four group had an impressive showing, registering a win over both the Colonials groups and the Jaspers.

Next, the Pioneers head to Philadelphia for the Kerr Cup in on April 14.
