Tri-State First Responders Offered Reduced Tuition for New Master of Public Administration Program

Police officers, firefighters and EMTs who enroll will receive a 25 percent tuition discount

Sacred Heart University is offering a 25 percent tuition discount for first responders throughout the tri-state area who enroll in SHU’s new Master of Public Administration (MPA) program, which starts next fall.

“We are honored to offer police officers, firefighters and EMS providers in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey the opportunity for reduced tuition in this exciting new program. First responders contribute so much to our communities, and I hope this option will assist them in their continued service and professional development,” said SHU President John J. Petillo.

Lesley DeNardis, director of the MPA program, cited the Las Vegas shootings as an illustration of the critical roles of first responders during all types of emergencies. “Those public servants who respond to public safety and medical emergencies, natural disasters and terrorist attacks provide an invaluable service to the community. The tuition discount program for first responders is a strong recognition of their vital contributions. It is also a positive affirmation of SHU’s commitment to its public service mission by providing greater educational opportunities for first responders that will allow them to enhance their professional and career goals,” DeNardis said.

The MPA can be completed in one year of full-time study or two years part time and is offered in a hybrid format of both on-campus and online courses. Students can choose among three concentrations: nonprofit management, emergency management or a self-designed concentration.
