Professor Roney Elected Treasurer of New England ACIS Chapter

Organization has 800 members around the world

History Professor John B. Roney has been elected treasurer of the New England Chapter of the American Conference of Irish Studies (ACIS).

The multidisciplinary scholarly organization has approximately 800 members in the United States, Ireland, Canada and other countries around the world, according to its website. Each spring, 300 to 400 people from the academic community and the general public attend the ACIS’s national conference. Each fall, meetings take place in the New England, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest and Western regions; the Southern regional meeting occurs in the winter.

Prior to coming to SHU, Roney taught at Redeemer University College and Wilfrid Lauier University, Ontario. He is faculty adviser for the Celtic Club and men’s ice hockey team. He is also a member of the American Historical Association, the American Society of Church History, the Conference on Faith and History (past executive officer), Kerry Archaeological and Historical Society and Phi Alpha Theta Honors Society.
