Pioneers Come Home

Alumni celebrate Homecoming with festivities and a victory against Cornell

Alumni, family and friends made Sacred Heart their destination the weekend of Oct. 16-18 to celebrate Homecoming.

Some of the special events included the annual Alumni Awards Ceremony, Big Red’s Beer Garden & Family BBQ and the Alumni Mass in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit.

The Alumni Association and academic colleges honored 12 graduates. With three new honors given this year — the Young Alumni Award, the Athletic Alumni Award, and the College of Nursing Alumni Leadership Award — last year’s event was the largest ever.

Following the Alumni Awards Ceremony, more than 100 alumni and professors celebrated the weekend at Pints with Professors at Red’s Pub on campus. Friday evening concluded at the Edgerton Center with A Really Big SHU: A Welcome Home Concert for Alumni & Friends Starring RPM. The band, comprised entirely of SHU alumni, faculty, and staff, played Beatles’ music after The Rising Tide performed an opening act.

More than 1,000 people packed the tent for Big Red’s Beer Garden & Family BBQ. Alumni watched and cheered as the Pioneers beat Cornell University 31-6. Prior to the football game, University departments sponsored events for their respective alumni, which included the Criminal Justice Alumni Reunion; A Celebration of the College of Nursing; the Alumni Author Spotlight, co-sponsored by the Isabelle Farrington College of Education; and the GOLD Society Young Alumni Breakfast.

The weekend concluded with the special Alumni Mass.

Homecoming Weekend continues to be an annual tradition and an important date on the alumni calendar. Mark your calendar for this year’s Homecoming, Sept. 16-18! We can’t wait to see you there.
