Cheryl Strayed, author of the #1 New York Times best-selling memoir Wild, inspired a packed Edgerton Center audience in September with her tale of personal struggle and survival during a 1,000-mile solitary trek .
Strayed explained how two devastating events changed her life forever: her mother’s sudden death from cancer, and the end of her young marriage. After hitting rock bottom, Strayed decided to confront her emotional pain by hiking more than 1,000 miles along the Pacific Crest Trail.
Wild tells the story of this amateur hiker’s experience, peppered with the colorful characters she encountered along the way as she struggled to find inner peace and stability. The story inspired producer and actress Reese Witherspoon to bring Wild to the big screen in 2014.
